Dawsons was formed in 1927 when my Great Grandfather, George Dawson, who started selling services and products such as the all new mains radio and portable wireless sets.
At this time radio broadcasting was very much in its infancy. In 1939 my Grandfather Cyril Dawson moved with his family to and joined the Westbourne shop and started to sell black and white televisions made by Ekco, Murphy, Marconi and Baird.
My Father, Peter Dawson, joined the family business in 1957 and Dawsons became a more focused Television and Radio retailer and a complete shop fit was completed in 1962, making space for the latest technologies. In 1964, Peter brought Bang & Olufsen to Westbourne as well as stocking brands such as Panasonic and Sony.
In September 1980, I joined the company as a delivery and sales person. During the late eighties and early nineties Dawsons entered the home cinema market and became one of the UK’s leading specialists, winning many industry awards. In 1998 we moved to 74 Poole Road, a much larger premises, which has enabled us to create three dedicated demonstration lounges for Dawsons Home Cinema and a large shop for the multiple brands we stock.
In 2000 we became a Bang & Olufsen Franchise and have subsequently won various awards from Bang & Olufsen including Dealer of the Year award
In 2006 Dawsons Marine was formed to serve the increasing demand for audiovisual systems aboard luxury yachts. Working closely with Sunseeker International, Dawsons Marine quickly became established as the experts in marine installations, winning industry awards in both 2008 and 2009.
Most recently, we completed a refit of our 74 Poole Road showrooms to allow you to see the latest products from Bang & Olufsen, Crestron, Meridian, Kaleidescape, Lutron and many others.
We look forward to seeing you in store soon.
Kevin Dawson
